Eric was appointed to oversee St. Columba’s change from being a daughter church of St. John’s, Ranmoor, to become a parish church, a task he fulfilled with love, care and dedication. Linked to this was the preparation for the major re-ordering of the church interior to its present form.
A letter to the parish in 1992 from the church wardens shortly before Eric’s retirement and the completion of these changes commented on
‘Eric’s caring attitude and his open, friendly approach to everyone he meets, as well as his spiritual leadership, have endeared him to many people in Crosspool and we shall miss him greatly.’
The appropriateness of this comment was clearly borne out by the massive attendance at his farewell service in 1992. Since then, Eric has enjoyed some 25 years of very active retirement in Filey. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Laura, and their two sons, Paul and Ian, at this time.
