New home for Paul and Claire

Paul and Claire, our mission partners in Pune, North India write:  “We finally moved out of suitcases on December 9th.   After nearly four months we were relieved to sign the paper work and receive keys on a three bedroom house ten minutes walk from our office. Our friends and colleagues live within the local area and we are surrounded by friends from our place of worship which is a real blessing. The local community have really taken us under their wing and been a real source of support and encouragement in these early days.

The work of Kites has moved on rapidly, we held our first research programs in late November studying the effects of trauma on children in care homes. This will help us cater our training program to the workers over time and we continue to seek opportunities for further research.

As a result of the positive relationships we built in these homes we were able to run ‘Kites Christmas for Kids’. We held two parties with more in other homes in the New Year. The money that many gave generously helped us decorate the children’s bedrooms, provide catering for all the children, gifts and presents, and run a full day’s program of games and activities.

Kites also works to support staff who run these homes. Our vision is to provide training and respite care for them too. We believe that children receive better care if someone is looking after their caregivers. We therefore held parties for all the staff and held a ceremony of appreciation for the staff. One member of staff said to us Are you coming again? You bring so much fun, this was the first time I’ve ever been appreciated publicly.’

We also received positive feedback from the Rickshaw driver who brought the team home. He told our Indian colleagues ‘I’m amazed how you guys came and showed these kids so much love, you’re like trees for these kids, you come and give them shelter’. We both felt really touched by this and just felt it was good to share with you all. Thank you for being our trees and helping us! We couldn’t do this work without your support.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. “
