St Columba's Crosspool

Open to God, Welcoming All

I visited St Columba today to pray.

I visited St Columba today to pray, it looked beautiful and I had a very warm welcome (thank you Brenda and Bryony!). I love sitting in silence to pray and enjoyed that, and also took a few minutes to pop my headphones on and listen to an app called ‘Pray as you go’ which provides daily structured short (approx 10 mins) nourishing reflections for prayer, which can be thought provoking and aims to help you to become more aware of God’s presence in your life. It comprises of music, scripture, and questions for reflection. If you’re ever looking for some inspiration for prayer which is gentle and has some depth you may like to try this too. Today I particularly enjoyed thinking about the phrase ‘There is nothing we can do to stop God’s continuing love for us.’ I’ve been a Christian for a long time but sometimes still need to hear those words. I find that centring like this daily can be a fantastic way of putting everything that is going on into perspective, and it reminds me that my faith is a real anchor amidst the storms of life. Praying in this way can be uplifting, calming, reassuring, heartwarming, challenging, and strengthening, so if you’ve not already maybe you’d like to give it a go – whether in Church or wherever you are. Lots of love and peace, Heather Schofield x
