Baptism, Weddings and Funerals
In baptism – sometimes also known as christening – we welcome children into the family of the church and affirm God’s love for them as unique individuals. In preparation for baptism we will meet with you to get to know you and to explain what’s involved for parents and godparents. We will suggest that you join us for worship a time or two to get familiar with St. Columba’s. Baptism usually takes place in the 10.30. Sunday service, though we can make other arrangements if needed. There is no charge for Baptism.
Marriage in church can be a joyful, creative celebration with depths of spiritual meaning. Many couples delay getting married because of the cost implications: yet marriage at St. Columba’s can be a joyful day without adding to excessive costs. Our Church Hall is a good venue for a reception: we have excellent local caterers, and an attractive park across the road for photos. As clergy we are here to provide sympathetic and prayerful guidance throughout the process of preparing for marriage.
It’s a commonly held misunderstanding that church funerals are only for church-goers. As a parish church we are see it as our role to be available for any resident of Crosspool whose wish is for a funeral within the context of the Christian tradition. As clergy we work sensitively and collaboratively with families in preparation for the funeral. The light, serene interior of St. Columba’s forms a peaceful setting.
